DENOMINATION
Madeira D.O.P
GRAPE VARIETIES
Bastardo
VINEYARDS
São Jorge, North Coast.
LOT
Bastardo was extinct in Madeira for many years. Its recovery was due to Teófilo Cunha, who in 2004 planted vineyards of that variety on his family ́s lands in São Jorge, situated on the north of the island. Ricardo Diogo’s first Bastardo harvest took place in 2007. With the grapes that came into the winery every year, he was determined to experiment as much as possible, and, for this reason, every vinification contributed to enhance his knowledge. In this Old Reserve blend, three wines were added, the first by skin maceration from the year 2010 and the other two by direct pressing from the years 2009 and 2011 that resulted in 2.139 bottles all numbered.
