Sebastian Teunissen

Sebastian has been a member of the board of directors of Vinhos Barbeito since 1991 when he helped establish the joint venture that became the current company.

Sebastian's career has spanned the worlds of business, academe, government and non-governmental organizations. He is the Executive Director of Cobscook Institute, https://cobscookinstitute.org/ an organization focused on improving education opportunities in rural America. Previously, he served as Managing Director for a Netherlands based NGO that works to develop sustainable agricultural supply chains throughout the world. For almost 3 years prior to that, he served as Executive Director of a major international wildlife conservation organization. In the academic arena, Sebastian ran the international business programs at the University of California, Berkeley and also taught at Duke University, amongst others. In addition to being a management consultant, he served as General Manager of Kinoshita International in Osaka, Japan. For the Government of Papua New Guinea, he was Assistant Secretary in the Department of Finance and oversaw the country's investments in all manner of industries, serving on the boards of dozens of companies operating in PNG.

Sebastian completed his undergraduate work in economics and mathematics at the University of Guelph, in Canada and his graduate work, in economics at Duke University in the USA.

Since 2008, Sebastian is a member of the Madeira Wine Association - “Confraria” (Madeira Wine Brotherhood).
